Every solid build starts way before the first truck of concrete rolls in. On the Hostetler project, we're in full site prep mode - grading, layout, and getting the ground dialed in before anything else happens. It's the kind of work that doesn't get a lot of attention, but it's everything.
Here's the thing most people don't realize - if the ground underneath isn't graded correctly, your slab will have problems. Settlement, cracking, drainage issues. All of it traces back to what was done before the pour. That's why we don't cut corners on this step.
We've got the mini excavator working the site and a laser level running the whole time to verify grades as we go. The formwork is being set in stages so we can check elevations and make sure everything is where it needs to be. It's a coordinated process, not just pushing dirt around.
The wooden form boards you see getting set up are what defines the edges and depth of the slab. They've got to be straight, level, and locked in tight. Once concrete goes down, you don't get a do-over on placement or elevation. Getting this right up front is the only way to do it.
This is what good concrete foundation work actually looks like before it looks like anything. The unglamorous part. The part that holds up everything that comes after it. We take that seriously on every job we do.
