First Foundation Pour Down on the Parker Project

The first pour is down on the Parker project, and honestly, it's one of those milestones that feels good every single time. A concrete foundation isn't glamorous work - nobody puts it on a mood board - but it's the piece that everything else depends on. Get it wrong here, and you're chasing problems for the life of the build.

Here's what we were working with: a large slab footprint with rebar grid laid out across vapor barrier, wood form framing locked in on all sides, and anchor bolts set at the perimeter ready for framing. The prep work going into a pour like this is just as important as the concrete itself. Every bolt placement, every inch of the form - it all has to be right before the truck even shows up.

Once the mixer arrived, the crew got to work fast. Fresh concrete doesn't wait around. We worked the chute, spread the material evenly across the rebar grid, and ran screeds across the surface to level everything out. After the initial spread, the finishing work starts - getting that slab smooth and flat before it sets. The ride-on power trowel you can see in the later shots is what gets us the tight, finished surface this kind of foundation needs.

This isn't the last stop on the Parker project either. We're coming back for a stamped concrete porch and additional exterior concrete work. That's the thing about doing foundations right from the start - it sets the tone for every phase that follows. When the base is solid, the rest of the job moves cleaner and faster.
